Debt/civil litigation – identity theft

Pamela contacted the Centre after receiving a claim form from a well-known company which buys debt.

The allegations were that she had taken out a phone contract, and not paid the bill. The Claimant had bought the debt from a mobile telephone company.

Pamela hadn’t taken out this contract and felt that her identity had been stolen. SWLAC successfully challenged the Claimant, highlighting their lack of compliance with the Debt Protocol as well as the lack of evidence that Pamela had taken out the contract.

In due course the Claimant withdrew the claim.
